A former Northern Ireland secretary is suggesting that British troops involved in the Bloody Sunday killings should escape prosecution.

Peter Hain says if a line's to be drawn under the past, that should include paratroopers who opened fire on unarmed civilians in Derry in 1972.

His comments come after it emerged effective immunity's been given to scores of so-called IRA "on the run" suspects as part of the peace process.
