A military commander leading the fight against Islamic State in Iraq believes the militants could be defeated by the end of the year.

General Salar Taymour is in charge of Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga forces - aiming to re-take the strategic city of Mosul.

They've captured nine villages and killed 140 extremists in a two-day operation.
