Cllr resigns after asking for money

A Fianna Fail Councillor has resigned from the party following last night's documentary by RTE's Investigations Unit in which he was filmed asking for an investment in his company in return for help with planning in County Sligo.

Councillor Joe Queenan told an undercover reporter posing for a fictitious wind farm developer that he would act as a go-between with the firm and Sligo County Council.

Fianna Fail's described some of the behaviour shown in the programme as "shocking and completely unacceptable".

It wants a Garda investigation into any illegal activity and will launch an internal inquiry.

The RTE programme also showed former Fine Gael Councillor Hugh McElvaney of Monaghan, and Independent Donegal councillor John O'Donnell requesting money in return for help in getting planning permission for wind farms.

On last night's RTE programme Councillor Queenan said he didn't want money - but he was looking for investment in an agri-feed company:
