Cobble Stones are to be ripped up on Galway's Shop Street because they're tripping up visitors.

The number of people getting hurt has increased since the council started doing repairs on the paving which was laid down 20 years ago.

At the weekend it was revealed that Dublin's Temple Bar is also in for a revamp, which could involve removing some cobbled streets.

There are increasing concerns about accessibility in our cities, particularly for wheelchair users and cyclists.

Galway city Council is already doing repair work on Cobblestones on Shop Street which have tripped up visitors -

Casualties including a woman in her sixties who broke her two front teeth and another in her eighties who broke her cheekbone.

Meanwhile, work to make Dublin's Temple Bar could begin as early as next year with plans to widen and resurface footpaths.
