Tens of thousands of euro worth of imports to Ireland are being ruined by the crisis in Calais.

Striking French ferryworkers have blocked the port at the Channel Tunnel over the past month, causing traffic chaos.

Thousands of migrants have been taking advantage of the tailbacks, by attempting to stow away in haulage trucks.

The Irish Road Haulage Association has told the Irish Independent that food consignments destined for Ireland are now 'going off' in lorries at the port.

If migrants are found on board the vehicles, the food also has to be written off.
