A consultant at the cardiac unit in University Hospital Waterford says an independent review of its service was based on flawed figures.
The review is at the centre of a row between Fine Gael and the independent junior minister John Halligan, who wants a second cath lab there.
Dr Niall Herity's review found that the hospital did not deal with enough heart attack victims to justify a certain status.
