A Cork student has been attacked while on a J1 visa in San Diego in the US.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it's offering consular assistance to the man.

He'e being treated in hospital where is condition is described as serious.

The Department has confirmed it's aware of the case and is offering assistance as requested.
