A 22 year old Cork student has died following a swimming accident in the US last week.

Philip Leahy from Ballyhooly suffered a cardiac arrest as he was rescued from the water at Ocean City, Maryland last Wednesday.

The J1 student lost his fight for life last night at Atlantic General Hospital.

A crowdfunding page has raised over 93,000 euro to support his family.The page was set up by  members of the Ballyhooley community. The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the family.
