A Cork woman has been awarded damages by the European Court of Human Rights over abuse she suffered at a school in the 70s.
The Irish State had denied that it had been liable for the actions of Louise O'Keeffe's abuser, who was the principal of her primary school in Dunderrow.
Leo Hickey was subsequently jailed for three years, following an investigation in the 90s.
The European court today overturned a ruling from the Supreme Court, which found that the State could not be liable as he was not in its direct employment.
