Coronavirus: 12 Further Deaths And 379 New Cases In Ireland


There have been 12 more coronavirus-related deaths in Ireland, which brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths since the pandemic began to over 2,000.

379 new cases of the virus have also been confirmed today.

There have been now been 2,006 deaths since the pandemic began, and 69,058 cases.

Of today's new cases, 116 were in Dublin, 38 in Donegal, 30 in Meath, 27 in Cork, 22 in Limerick, 22 in Louth, and the remaining 124 cases were spread across all other counties.

As of this afternoon, 282 COVID-19 patients were being treated in Irish hospitals - including 33 in ICU.

The national 14-day incidence rate is now 121 per 100,000 population.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: “Today we sadly report over 2,000 deaths associated with COVID-19 to date in this country. This pandemic has impacted, directly and indirectly, on families and communities all across Ireland.

“It is important that we continue to work together if we are to suppress this virus and protect as many people as possible. For the next two weeks, work from home, stay at home and follow public health advice.”
