Calls for Environment Minister to help Longboat residents

Dublin Fire Brigade says it intends to serve a Fire Safety Notice this evening relating to the Longboat Quay apartment complex.

The apartments' Management Company; developer Bernard McNamara's Gendsong Ltd and the Dublin Docklands Development Authority will receive the notification, which will contain measures to address the fire safety issues identified at the complex.

A statement from residents this evening says they haven't yet formally received a notice, but understand from discussions with the Fire Brigade that it will only include instructions as to what work is required to resolve this issue - and the related timeframe.

Dublin Docklands Development Authority has offered to pay 2.75 million euro - or 58% - of the cost of making the complex safe.

Local councillor Chris Andrews says the Department of the Environment should foot the rest of the bill.

And in the Dail earlier, Renua leader Lucinda Creighton said the issue is further evidence of a lack of accountability:
