A court hearing in Spain to decide whether or not to extradite the parents of Ashya King back to Britain, has been adjourned for three days.

Brett and Naghmeh King took the 5-year-old - who has a brain tumour - out of hospital in Southampton on Thursday without doctors' consent.

They wanted him to get a treatment that was denied on the NHS.

Mr and Mrs King were taken to appear in court in Madrid, while Ashya is receiving treatment in a children's hospital in Malaga.

However the hearing has been adjourned, after they told the court they did not accept extradition to the UK.

They will remain in police custody meaning they are still unable to visit their five-year-old son in hospital in Malaga.

Ashya is also not able to have visits from his six siblings who are also still in Spain, because he is under police guard at the hospital.

Hampshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Hayes, said it's a tragic story and he has sympathy for the family involved.

Mr Hayes said there's no suggestion Ashya's parents will be jailed - and the ethical questions surrounding the case can be asked after he's returned to the UK for treatment.
