The Russian President says the result of the referendum on independence in Crimea was quite convincing.

Vladimir Putin made the comments during an address to a joint session of parliament in the Kremlin in Moscow - where he received numerous standing ovations.

Western leaders say the breakaway vote was illegal and are refusing to recognise the region's new status.
