Ireland's Data Protection Commissioner has contacted Facebook after revelations that WhatsApp is now sharing data with the social media network.

Facebook bought WhatsApp in 2014.

Changes to the messaging app's privacy policy, mean WhatsApp will share personal data - including users' phone numbers - with Facebook.

The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner says any processing of data must not infringe on the rights of the individual.
