A second Labour minister has said they expect agreement on new measures to tackle the cost of rent by the end of the week.
But Brendan Howlin's comments come a day after two meetings between ministers Alan Kelly and Michael Noonan failed to reach any major agreement as their dispute continues.
However more meetings are set for later in the week and Government sources say 'good progress' is being made.
Reports today suggest that while Kelly's bid to link rent increases to inflation will fail, landlords will instead have to produce examples of rental costs for similar properties if they ask a tenant to pay more for their accommodation.
Long-term tenants will also be given longer notice periods if they are being asked to leave their home.
But Sinn Féin's arguing that the dispute undermines the coalition's re-election campaign - which is based on providing stable government.
