A group calling for a Yes vote in the referendum on same-sex marriage has described itself as the 'family values' campaign.
The Yes Equality group insists that the status of other relationships would not change if the marriage equality referendum is passed on May the 22nd.
However the campaign's launch came just hours after one of Ireland's Catholic bishops claimed that people who have children are "not necessarily parents".
Kevin Doran, the Bishop of Elphin, said of gay couples: "They may have children but that’s the difference, you see that’s the point, people who have children are not necessarily parents.
"This legislation that the Government is introducing, the Children and Family Relationships Bill, seems primarily focused about making it possible for people in various different relationships to have children. It’s not about ensuring that children have their parents."
The leader of one of the groups campaigning for a Yes vote described the comments as "unfortunate".
