Irish couples spend an average of €19,600 on their wedding last year.

That's up more than €2000 on 2012 figures.

The study by mrs2Be.ie found that 1 in 4 couples live together for more than 5 years before they get married and nearly a quarter do not get married in a church.

December is the most popular month to get engaged followed by February.
