Defence Forces Deployed After Donegal Flooding

The Army has been called in to help with the major clean-up operation in Donegal.

Around 200 houses were damaged, while up to six bridges and a number of roads were washed away following heavy rainfall in the Inishowen Peninsula on Tuesday night.

A number of people in the village of Burnfoot have been left homeless and in need of emergency accommodation.

More rain is forecast for today, and a weather warning is in effect for Donegal until this evening.

An initial platoon of 30 Defence Forces personnel is due in the county this morning.

Meanwhile, the Taoiseach has announced that an inter-agency meeting is being held in Dublin today to coordinate a national response to the flooding.

Humanitarian aid has already been confirmed for the individuals & families affected.
