A garda patrol in Donegal has been without a car since January.
The recent wild weather in Donegal has highlighted how inadequately equipped Gardai in Donegal are to tackle hazardous weather conditions.
Dealing with the flooding crisis this week, Gardai were faced with the challenge of extreme flooding without even one 4x4 between them.
GRA representative for Donegal Brendan O’Connor likened their challenge to the lack of resources faced by police in parts of India that was highlighted in a recent documentary on Channel 4.

While Garda O'Connor's reference to the documentary may be somewhat tongue-in-cheek, the problem remains that they were carrying out rescue missions using family hatchbacks and estate cars.
