Training for the first new Garda recruits in four years is to be delayed.
Justice minister Frances Fitzgerald says 100 new recruits will begin training in Templemore in early September.
It marks the first time in over five years that new trainees will have been admitted to the Garda training college.
However the previous minister Alan Shatter had previously planned to have two separate intakes in Templemore by the middle of this summer.
Over 20,000 people have applied for the new two-year training course.
