Diageo has removed itself from the board of the 'Stop out of control drinking' campaign, after criticism that the presence of the drinks giant undermined its independence.
The company's involvement in the campaign had provoked a large amount of controversy, but it will continue to provide funding for it.
The Health Minister, Leo Varadkar, welcomed the decision to step down saying the drinks industry shouldn't support such campaigns.
