Dáil suspended for an hour in latest row

Dáil business was suspended for over an hour this afternoon - following another dispute between Sinn Féin and the Ceann Comhairle.

The party refused to allow business to continue, unless Joan Burton withdrew a claim that there is a "problem of paedophilia" within the republican movement.

It's the second time in 15 days that Dáil business was held up in a dispute between the Ceann Comhairle and Sinn Fein.

Mary Lou McDonald had originally tried to inquire into the status of an internal Garda report into its handling of a known paedophile and child abuser - which Joan Burton then sought to connect to the Republican movement

The impasse led to three suspensions, totalling an hour.

The row only ended, with Dáil business resuming, when Sinn Féin's whip Aengus Ó Snodaigh agreed to make a complaint about Joan Burton's comments to the Dáil's Committee on Procedures and Privileges, which is responsible for disciplinary issues.
