Ireland's Direct Provision system for asylum seekers is "not fit for purpose".

That's the finding of a new report released this morning by the Oireachtas Public Service Oversight Committee.

The report wants greater oversight of the system, which the committee says is failing its users.

The report follows a series of meetings with families, management and staff in the four Direct Provision centres across the country.
