Homeless people are being failed by the government, that's according to the Director of the Capuchin Day Centre.

Brother Kevin Crowley has appealed to Dublin City Council to address the lack of homeless shelters in the capitol.

The call comes as more than twice the amount of people sleeping rough on the streets sought shelter on Friday night during one of the worst weather spells to hit the country this summer.
