The growing dispute over plans for free GP care for the Under 6s is set to top the agenda at the IMO’s annual conference in Kildare.

Health Minister James Reilly’s proposals will mean the GP contract will have to be changed.

Among the key talking points today will be the 10 million euro pensions packet of former Chief Executive George McNeice.

The Health Minister’s plans to push ahead with Free GP care for children under Six is a contentious issue with doctors here at the IMO Conference - who say it’s “unworkable” in its current format.

Dr James Reilly - himself a former President of the Organisation - will not be attending this weekend’s conference. With Junior Minister Alex White stepping in tomorrow.

He’ll be met with questions about the shortage of Consultants in many of the country’s hospitals and the Governments plan’s for Universal Health Insurance.

Today however, the focus will be on the lack of progress on the National Children’s Hospital; overcrowded emergency departments - and a motion calling for a ballot on the decisions which led to former CEO George McNeice’s 10 million euro pensions deal.
