Dr Tony Holohan To Be Paid €30k More Than Trinity Colleagues

The outgoing CMO will be paid around €30,000 a year more than his academic colleagues when he begins his new job at Trinity College Dublin.

The Irish Independent is reporting that Dr. Tony Holohan's salary of €187,000 a year, is significantly higher than the capped earnings of other professors.

The highest capped salary for professors involved solely in teaching and research at TCD is €157,000 per annum.

Controversy erupted this week when it emerged that Dr. Holohan's salary will continue to be paid by the Department of Health, despite him confirming that he not be returning to the role of Chief Medical Officer.

The Chair of the Oireachtas Finance Committee, TD John McGuiness says he wants further details on how the job came about and the decisions made around Dr Holohan's salary.
