Softdrinks makers criticise sugar tax

The group representing makers of soft drinks says introducing a sugar tax would cost upwards of 35 million euro.

The Irish Beverage Council, part of IBEC, says the tax would also cost the average Irish household an extra 60 euro a year in grocery bills.

But obesity experts say a sugar tax, along with educational measures would go a long way in tackling the issue.
