Drivers who park in disabled spaces without a proper badge are to be targeted in a new campaign.

Gardai say people who abuse the system will face fines of 2,000 euro.

Disability campaigners say they are increasingly frustrated by the numbers of people parking illegally in wheelchair spaces.

Sean O'Kelly, is the founder of 'A Day in my Wheels' a campaign that challenges people to rethink their attitudes to people with disabilities by spending 24 hours in a wheelchair.

He says the most common excuse he hears from people is 'I'll only be a minute'
