The Department of Health plans to relocate the three Dublin Maternity hospitals following a review of services.

In a plan to be published this afternoon the Rotunda hospital will be relocated to Blanchardstown, Holles Street will move to St Vincent's and the Coombe will move to St James hospital.

The 3 Dubin hospitals have complained of a chronic lack of space and this is limiting their development.

This plan would see two of the hospitals bi-located - with facilities at Connolly hospital in Blanchardstown and St Vincent's hospital.

In the case of the Coombe it would be tri-located with St James hospital and the National Children's Hospital.

Today's announcement follows a review conduced by the department of health.

Liam Doran is General Secretary of the INMO - he's broadly supportive of the plan
