The jury in a Dublin murder trial has been shown CCTV footage of the accused carrying what appears to be a knife moments before the killing.

David Sheridan died in hospital on August 18th 2014,– a day after he was repeatedly stabbed outside a chipper.

CCTV footage from the Sunset House pub, which is just a short stroll from Croke Park, showed the accused Donal Colgan drinking at the bar counter and mingling with customers from early evening on August 17th 2014.

The court heard he drank between ten and twelve pints of cider throughout the day.

He's seen entering Luigi's Takeaway on North Strand Road at 10.20pm.

Some sort of scuffle took place outside after he left with his food and David Sheridan could be seen going out to investigate.

The jurors were told theyÂ’ will hear witness evidence of that fight in due course.

Afterwards, Mr Colgan could be seen walking towards his home at Killarney Court and returning with what appears to be a knife in his hand.

It is the prosecutionÂ’'s case that he repeatedly stabbed Mr Sheridan outside the chipper before simply walking away.

Mr. Colgan (65) denies the charge.

The trial, which will take at least a week, will resume tomorrow morning.
