A Dublin man has gone on trial accused of murdering a man and stabbing his friend in the stomach over a €50 debt.

Wayne Kennedy of Rathsallagh Park, Shankill, Dublin 18 denies carrying out the attacks in the early hours of St. Stephen’s Day 2013.

The court heard Sean Turner, a professional heavyweight boxer, received a text from Wayne Kennedy at around 4.45am on St. Stephen’s Day 2013.

The accused was looking for a €50 debt repaid and they arranged a straightener or fist fight in the green at Rathsallagh Park in Shankill.

Mr. Kennedy allegedly brought a kitchen knife with him and stabbed Mr. Turner twice. The boxer lost five pints of blood and underwent emergency surgery but has since made a full recovery.

It is the prosecution’s case that Mr. Turner’s friend David Spain ran after the accused after the fight and was stabbed to death by him.

The jury has been shown photos of a trail of blood leading up to Mr. Kennedy’s house as well as pictures of blood stains inside his home.

The 33-year-old has pleaded not guilty to murdering David Spain and he also denies assault causing harm to Sean Turner.

The trial continues before a jury of ten men and two women at the Central Criminal Court.
