Controversy over the issue of electronic voting in elections could be revisited according to Justice Minster, Charlie Flanagan.
Speaking to the Irish Independent, the minister says he wants the Electoral Commission to look at best practice in the area.
20 years ago Fianna Fáil bought 7 thousand 500 e-voting machines but they were scrapped after unsuccessful trials.
The Minister believes the matter needs to be looked at again due to the recount in Ireland South for the European elections which could cost 1 million euro and take up to 28 days.
Kevin Doyle, Group Political Editor with INM, says the Minister for Justice does not want to re-visit mistakes of the past.
A full recount will get under way in Cork tomorrow as just 326 votes separate the Green Party's Grace O'Sullivan and outgoing Sinn Féin MEP Liadh Ní Riada for the final seat.
