A man has been taken to hospital following two house fires in Drogheda, Co. Louth this morning.

It's understood he sustained a head injury escaping from a blaze at a house on Patrick street at around 8 am.

It's understood he's also being treated for smoke inhalation.

Earlier, a woman was forced to flee after a house on George's Street in Drogheda caught fire.

The blaze which broke out at around 4 am is understood to have badly damaged the building.
