The Taoiseach says he has no intention of offering a "knee-jerk reaction" to the case of a clinically dead woman being kept on life support because she is pregnant.

Enda Kenny says the first priority must be to acknowledge the trauma being experienced by the family of the woman.

It's emerged that the High Court has replaced reporting restrictions on the case, ahead of the case coming back before it next Tuesday.

This afternoon the Minister for Health, Leo Varadkar, says there should be no rush to change the law on abortion.

Speaking in Brussels, Enda Kenny says he agrees - saying the issues are too complex for the Government to offer an "immediate" or "knee-jerk" reaction.

He said his first thought was with the family of the woman at the centre of the case, as they try to come to terms with the tragedy.

"I do not want to say anything about this, or any individual case here," he said.

"There are circumstances that arise occasionally where clearly, complexities exist - obviously - and they're outside the scope of the legislation," he said.
