Enda Kenny will resign as Taoiseach this afternoon, after chairing his final cabinet meeting.

The Mayo TD is due in the Dail in an hour's time to announce his departure, after six years leading the government.

Tributes have been paid to him this morning by his cabinet colleagues, though the man himself says it's been business as usual.

A special meeting of the Fine Gael parliamentary party has been called for this afternoon, for Kenny to make one final farewell speech to his party colleagues.

Then he will make the drive to Aras an Uachtarain to hand in his resignation, paving the way for the appointment of Leo Varadkar tomorrow lunchtime.
