Mobile phone giant Three has been given EU clearance for its 1 billion dollar takeover of O2 Ireland.
The deal will make the combined business the country's second largest mobile operator behind Vodafone.
A spokesperson for Three says it will give the firm the "scale and strength" to compete "aggressively" against Vodafone - and allow it to invest more in 4G technology.
Both O2 and Three say customers won't be affected by the takeover.
