Theresa May has failed to secure any further meaningful concessions on the backstop deal.

After late night talks in Brussels, European leaders said there would be no renegotiation of the withdrawal agreement.

European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker confirmed their position last night - insisting there's no changes to the backstop deal.

Mr Juncker told reporters: "I do find it uncomfortable that there's an impression perhaps in the UK that it's for the EU to propose solutions - it is the UK leaving the EU.

"I would have thought it was rather more up to the British government to tell us exactly what they want."

He added: "We can add some clarifications... to what has been agreed upon. But there will be no renegotiations."

European Council President Donald Tusk stressed that the Irish backstop is intended as an 'insurance policy', but also stressed there'd be no substantial changes to the already agreed deal.

It means Theresa May hasn't secured a significant change in policy, though there may be a clarifying text and more emphasis has been put on the fact that the backstop has always meant to be temporary.

However, amid clear opposition to the deal in Westminster, it's not a huge amount for her to bring back to London.

EU bosses also said they'll publish all preparation documents for a no deal scenario next week.
