The Syrian President says Europe is to blame for the refugee crisis - because it supports rebels in his country.
In an interview on state TV Bashar al-Assad if Europe stops supporting terrorists in Syria the problem will go away.
His remarks come as Austria introduced temporary controls along its border with Hungary to stop the flow of refugees into western Europe.
Buses in Serbia are preparing to take refugees to the Croatian border after Hungary blocked off its frontier with a razor-wire fence.
The crossing remains closed - with large numbers of people stranded on the Serbian side, spending the night wrapped in foil blankets provided by aid agencies.
