EXTENSIVE FLOODING IN GALWAY AFTER HIGH TIDE

There is extensive flooding in Galway this morning as a result of extremely hide tides, heavy rain and strong winds.

A number of homes and businesses in the city have been affected.

Met Eireann has issued an orange weather alert for the entire country, with gusts of up to 130 kilometres an hour expected - along with heavy rain, hail and thunder.

ESB says 15 hundred homes are without power this morning - with Cork and Bangor Erris in Co. Mayo the worst affected.

There's widespread surface water and flooding on many roads - so care is advised this morning, and Dublin Airport has cancelled 16 flights at Dublin Airport.

There was also minor flooding in Cork city centre at high tide at 6.30 this morning, but the water is now receding.
