Falling rents up to 2011 saw more fleeing nest

As many as 20-thousand more people in their 20s and 30s moved out of their parentsÂ’ homes in 2011, compared to 2006.

A report by the ESRI says this is because a fall in rents caused by the economic crash made setting up on their own cheaper.

But, a reversal recorded in recent months is likely to see many young people decide to live at home for longer.

The belief that house prices will continue to rise is also likely to incentivise more people to get on the property ladder.
