Gardai in Kildare are continuing to question a man in connection with a fire which engulfed a row of houses in a housing estate in Newbridge yesterday.

Six houses at Millfield Manor were extensively damaged within 20 minutes when the blaze broke out in high winds yesterday afternoon.

A 39 year old man was arrested last night and is being questioned at Newbridge Garda Statio.

No-one was injured.

The local community is rallying behind those who lost everything with a local hotel putting the families up last night.

Appeals have also been made for children's clothes to be dropped to Royston Sport Club in Newbridge.

The children range in age from 18 months to 13 years. 

A bank account has also been set up.
