A family who got stuck more than 50 feet above the ground on an amusement ride in Co Waterford has criticised the fairground for way they handled the incident.

Amanda Brewer and her 8 year old daughter Alicia were among 6 people who spent almost 2 hours on the air when the chair-o-plane malfunctioned in Tramore.

Amanda said while they were stuck at the top they could feel the ride creaking and swaying.

She says it was extremely difficult to keep the children calm.

Amanda Spoke to Ray D'Arcy

Amanda and her family from Shinrone in Co Offaly were on holiday with their neighbours Mark Hoctor and his family.

According to Amanda none of the family slept last night. She told Ray D'Arcy it was very hard to settle the kids after the incident. she said "my youngest {child} was on the ground roaring and screaming for me to get down.

Mark Hoctor whose partner and children were also on the same ride says he was watching it from the ground and saw it stop for a moment before the fairground staff raised it higher.

He said " I said to one of the boys there's something wrong with that"

Amanda said they were told initially they would be down within 5 minutes. She recounted how a man climbed a ladder at the side of the ride twice and pushed a button but nothing happened. He initially told them they would be down within 5 minutes.

She said "the Gardai had to be called because they were doing nothing just going up and down the ladder pressing buttons"

Mark said he eventually called the Gardai when they realised there was nothing happening.

The 6 people on the ride were brought to safety after almost 2 hours.
