A father and son have been taken to hospital following a farm accident in County Offally.

It happened in Shinrone shortly before 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon.

The 47-year-old man was airlifted to Tallaght hospital before being transferred to Beaumont hospital where it's understood he remains in a critical condition.

An 11-year-old boy was taken to Tullamore hospital where his injuries are described as non-life threatening.

The Health and Safety Authority has been notified and inspectors are expected to attend the scene this morning.
