Over 200 jobs are under threat at the parent company of Cadbury's chocolate.

Mondelez Ireland is seeking 160 redundancies at its plants in Dublin and Kerry, and also plans to close its gum factory in Tallaght with the loss of 62 jobs .

Unions have described the news as a 'bombshell'.

SIPTU has described the news as a bombshell.

Production of Time - Out is being transferred from Coolock to Poland.

Mondelez produces a range of confectionary products. The Rathmore plant has been in operation since 1948 and the Coolock facility opened in 1964

 SIPTU Organiser, Colm Casserly, said: “The announcement that the company is seeking such large-scale redundancies has come as a complete shock to the workforces and their respective communities.

Justin Cook, Managing Director of Mondelez Ireland said: “Following extensive reviews, we have presented separate proposals to employees in Tallaght and also at our chocolate sites in Coolock and Rathmore.  We very much regret that these proposed changes would require role reductions. We are committed to working fairly and respectfully with employees and their representatives through the consultation processes that will now commence.
