The captain of a South Korean ferry that sank in April - killing more than 300 people - has escaped the death penalty.

Judges gave their verdicts on 68-year-old captain Lee Joon-seok's role in the disaster sentencing him to 36 years in jail.

14 crew members also face jail terms if they're convicted over the disaster.

Nine bodies still remain unaccounted for.
