Football's world governing body's moved to clarify confirmation of a payment to the FAI following the Thierry Henry handball incident.
Earlier today FAI Chief Executive John Delaney said a payment was given to the body in order to shelve legal action, after the Ireland failed to reach the 2010 World Cup finals.
That payment was believed to have been in the region of 5 million euro - however in statement this evening FIFA says it provided a loan of 5 million US Dollars to settle the dispute.
This was to be used for a new stadium and was to be repaid if Ireland reached the 2014 World Cup - however it has since been written off.
