Fine Gael TD Sean Conlan has been released without charge this afternoon and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions, after he was arrested in connection with an assault.
40-year-old Deputy Conlan presented himself at Castleblayney Garda Station by appointment at 9.30 this morning, where he was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The arrest was in connection with an alleged assault at a bar in Ballybay on Sunday the 23rd of August.
It's understood a number of witnesses to the incident have been interviewed by officers in the past week.
In a statement this afternoon - Sean Conlan says he attended the Station voluntarily to give a statement of complaint to the Gardai - about an assault which was perpetrated on him in my family pub last Sunday."
Deputy Conlan says he cooperated fully with the Gardaí and that as it's an ongoing investigation he will be making no further comment.
