Fine Gael has announced the death of TD, Nicky McFadden. She was 51.

Deputy McFadden, who represented the constituency of Longford Westmeath, was elected in 2011 after serving for four years as a member of the Seanad.

In 2012 she announced that she had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone disease, but that she was determined to continue serving in her position.

She had continued to table written Dáil questions as recently as earlier this month.

She is survived by two adult children.
