Many parts of the country got their first snowfall of the winter today.

The heaviest falls were in the north and west of the country.

In eastern areas the snow has fallen mostly as sleet, which is making driving conditions on many roads treacherous.

Forecasters say that strong gusts and winds are making the snowy conditions worse.
