Areas along the river Shannon are said to be on alert for further flooding following severe rain over the last 24 hours.

Water levels in the Athlone area have already increased by 8cm since Wednesday.

A yellow rainfall warning for Munster and Leinster has now ended - however communities are monitoring flood defences around the clock.
